2006 - food drinks music is the name of the forthcoming third album
by avant-pop band shitting glitter. currently the band is writing and recording
demos for the album, which will be the follow up to free alongside ship, released
in january of '06. being their third album, the band plans to continue to hone
their sound and attempt to move away from what many have labeled an 'eighties'
sound. tracks that are currently being worked on include two which have been performed
live many times, the apple falls (a kylie-esque pop tune with a disco
beat and bass line reminiscent of i feel love by donna summer), and idiot
light (a funky and dirty little number that sounds like prince if he had
been in a garage band in high school). the collection is a departure
and mixes the esoteric and surreal art-pop of laurie anderson with the electro-grrl-punk
of letigre. what's the point is a punky number inspired by the early
days of the b-52's and pat benetar. unthinkable is a sly and slinky grinder
not unlike an early garbage track, whereas hopeless romantic alternates
between a r&b flavored verse with a driving, pulsating bridge and chorus à
la fisherspooner. so despite the references to eighties acts and bands that sound
eighties, the record will be a thoroughly modern affair. the band is incorporating
more organic sounds such as percussion, drums, bass guitar, more vocal layers;
anything goes in fact. new technology mixed with earned wisdom and a larger perspective
have naturally progressed the band's sound over the past year since they have
finished their sophomore album. they have listened to feedback, searched out new
sounds, and ultimately made a conscious effort to dig deeper with the new material.
food drinks music will continue where free alongside ship left
off, but keep in mind just how far the ship has sailed...
